Sizing: deciding what actually has to stay on
The sizing conversation starts with a question most homeowners have not fully answered for themselves: what has to keep running when the power drops, versus what can wait. A well pump and a sump pump are usually non-negotiable in this part of Michigan. A second refrigerator in the garage or a hot tub heater usually is not.
We walk the house with you and go circuit by circuit, because that is the only way to get a real answer instead of a rough one. Undersizing a generator means it trips under its own load the first time everything tries to run at once. Oversizing means paying for capacity that never gets used. We'll help you determine the size you need before anything is ordered, and that number comes from the walk, not from a chart.

The install: pad, fuel, transfer switch, inspection
Generac generator sales and installation both go through us, so the unit and the setup come from one place rather than a unit bought elsewhere and a scramble to find someone to install it. The install itself has a fixed order: a pad set level and clear of the house per code, the fuel connection made, and a transfer switch installed and wired so the generator can never feed back into the utility line at the same time the utility is feeding the house.
Once that is done, the whole system gets inspected the same as any other electrical work on the property. There is no shortcut on that step, because a transfer switch that is wired wrong is not a minor mistake.
Chapter 03
After the install
Most standby generators run a short exercise cycle on their own schedule, typically weekly, to keep the engine and battery ready. That cycle is worth knowing about rather than being surprised by the first time you hear it start on its own in the driveway.
A generator warranty is offered on top of that, and we will walk through what it covers before you sign anything. When the unit does need service down the line, it comes back to the same people who installed it and who know exactly how it was set up.

What has to stay on
Well pump, sump pump, furnace controls, medical equipment. The non-negotiable list, named out loud instead of assumed.
What can wait
A second refrigerator, a hot tub heater, a shop full of tools nobody is running during a storm. Left off the must-run list on purpose.
What the panel can carry
The must-run list only means something once it is checked against what the existing panel and wiring can actually support.
